Boboutic - Studio Visit

One of the most exciting new additions to our womenswear edit last season was Boboutic, an Italian knitwear brand which continually explores new ways for knitwear to evolve. Crafting truly one-of-a-kind knitted garments, they reject the use of scissors in favour of 'an endless line' that leads to unique surfaces and beautifully unexpected shapes. So when we were in Florence for Pitti back in June, buying for next spring/summer, we couldn't resist the opportunity to visit Boboutic at their workshop and showroom in the heart of the city.

Boboutic’s approach to knitwear is imaginative and unpredictable, aimed at creating a product where materials and structures compensate each other: rejecting the use of scissors in favourof ‘an endless line’ of yarn that leads to unique surfaces and beautifully unexpected shapes,Inspired by other creative disciplines – whether visual art, performance or filmmaking– the brand has collaborated with diverse artists who were invited to respond to the Boboutic brand philosophy.

Working with the highest-quality yarns from Italy's Biella region, a part of northern Italy renowned for spinning and weaving some of the world's best fabrics and textiles, Boboutic begins their design process by determining how each specific yarn behaves, then crafts pieces based on their fundamental characteristics. While most designers use drawings as the foundation of their creations, Boboutic's unique thread-led approach results in an exquisite harmony between fabric and shape, ensuring naturally flowing drapes and one-of-a-kind silhouettes, showcasing their exceptional understanding of textiles and incredible ability as craftsmen.
