Founded in Essen in 1924, Keramische Werkstatt Margaretenhöhe was originally established on behalf of Margarethe Krupp as a workshop to produce ceramics adhering to the principles of Bauhaus.
Since 1987, Korean Master Potter Young-Jae Lee has served as head of the Keramische Werkstatt Margaretenhöhe. The visual language characteristic of the KWM under Lee's direction sees a contemporary reinterpretation of the Bauhaus maxims, combining traditional Eastern ceramic art with European minimalism.
Consistent with Korean tradition, Young-Jae Lee presides over a workshop largely uninterested in the invention of new forms and far more concerned with the mastery of an extant repertoire. Each form is designed to complement another, with a limited palette of glazes affording balance to any collection, no matter the scale. Additionally, each KWM piece is uniquely hand crafted Westerwald Stoneware, produced using sustainable production methods and materials.
Each piece is intended for everyday use, designed to elevate ordinary experiences.
A limited selection of Keramische Werkstatt Margaretenhöhe pieces are available through our online store. Alternatively, our full collection of KWM can be viewed in store.
