Inès Bressand

Inès Bressand is a Marseille-based designer whose basket bags are truly artistic sculptural objects as well as everyday accessories. Crafted from elephant grass, a naturally golden straw found across the African Savanna, her bags blend contemporary design and traditional processes with nature as inspiration. After spending time in Ghana learning how to sculpt and weave baskets from elephant grass, Bressand created her first collection, AKAMAE, named for one of the weavers she worked with. The baskets are first hand-woven in Ghana and then sculpted and pleated into shape in Bressand's workshop, Saint-Pierreville, where the vegetable-tanned leather accents are also added.
