Antipast

Launched in 1992 by Japanese design duo Junko Jinushi and Kyoko Kato, Antipast is celebrated for its bold, playfully patterned collection of fine-gauge socks and knitwear. Inspired by their experience in print, dye and textiles, the pair bring a refreshingly whimsical direction to the brand’s creations, whetting the wearer’s appetite for self-expression, just as the Italian ‘Antipasto’ dish does prior to a meal, The name is also a nod to the founders’ forward-thinking approach to design and fashion, ‘anti-past’. As they poetically put it: “Antipast inspires and escorts your appetite for wearing, just like the sun does to blossom flowers”. Crafted in Japan using high-gauge looms and fine yarns (cotton, wool, and silk blends), and incorporating intricate patterns inspired by nature and folklore, these are veritable works of art for your feet.
